Gordon Moody – What we do

Residential Service

We offer an intense level of support consisting of individual and group therapy and this, combined with the benefit of living in a therapeutic community, works for many people where other forms of intervention may not succeed. The residential programme is for a period of 12 weeks during which residents are helped to adopt new coping skills which help them to attain recovery and to integrate back into society, without the need to gamble.

New Service for Women Problem Gamblers

Gordon Moody Association announces a new intensive treatment programme to meet the needs of women who are struggling to overcome their problem gambling. This new service combines two short term residential retreats with 12 weekly therapy sessions delivered either online or face to face.

The first 3 night residential will include a series of therapeutic group workshops in a retreat style setting. During this time you will be able to disengage from your day to day life and focus on your own needs and issues. You will be supported to develop an understanding of why your gambling has become so problematic in a positive and supportive network with other women who are struggling with similar problems.

This will be followed by weekly one-to-one therapy sessions face to face or online for a period of 12 weeks. For an hour a week you will get support with day to day problems and engage in further pieces of work that will help you to overcome your problem gambling.

This short and intensive programme will conclude with a 2 night residential series of therapeutic workshops again in a retreat style setting in the Herefordshire countryside.

During this time you will be able to look at what you have learned, discuss any problems you have experienced during treatment, and create a personal plan that will enable a gambling free future.

How to access help: Contact Amy on: 01384 241292 who will send you an application form or you can complete an application form online

Once this has been completed we will arrange a telephone interview with you. If your application is successful we can then discuss the details of the accommodation and precise dates.

Outreach service

On completion of the programme we also offer an outreach service. Our outreach workers will continue to work with you for as long as you need them. We have halfway accommodation for up to three months for those who need it and wish to engage in relapse prevention work. If you choose to stay on then there is also help and support in accessing counselling and getting back into education/work. In addition, we can also help with housing advice for those who want to relocate.

Online support

We also have an online support group for ex residents on our Gambling Therapy website for those who do not wish to or are unable to maintain face to face contact and we offer online support for those waiting to come into treatment as well providing an online link with the families and friends of problem gamblers.

Friends and Family

We encourage friends and family to establish contact with the therapy staff as well as utilise the friends and family online group on our Gambling Therapy website. By doing this they can get support and help for themselves by talking to other people who are in similar positions and also learn how best to support their loved ones whilst they are in the treatment programme.

Referrals

Gordon Moody Association accepts individuals who refer themselves, or who are referred by their friends, family, probation, social or health workers…. in fact by anyone as long as the person being referred agrees
